The Slate plugin has this ridiculous iLok crap you have to do. For a free plugin it seems really strange to do that. I think they have a business arrangement with iLok.

Well the Panipulator just replaced the Auratones (horrible tones) A/B referencing monitors and it kicks ass. What a simple and must use tool to deal with the low res listeners of the modern age.

Thankds for the tips and downloads! LANDR is my new best friend in the studio! The mastering really jumped 10+ fold in quality due to the last upgrade and the improvement was instantly noticeable! GREAT JOB LANDR TEAM! When is the next and what is in store?

Lots of favourites but one set of FREE plug-ins I use that is very good is from Variety of Sound. ThrillseekerLA is a great master bus compressor: kind of a cross between UREI LA-2A and 1176. Density Mkxx is great on Bass. The transformer and tape modelling in these plugins is very good (I’m and old analog dog).

All good but cannot get the Slate Revival to be recognised by my DAW. It installs both 32 and 64 versions into the VST folder (am running ableton 32) but it just won’t pick it up :(

    Hi

  12. Simon Haworth

Great article, Scott. I use third-party VST plug-ins in ACID Music and SoundForge Studio, because they bring so much more to the sonic table than that which is included in both those apps.

I can attest to the power, quality and versatility of Frohmage, having used it for about five years. For vocals and harp, my two main instruments, it is a killer plug-in.

I can also highly recommend Voxengo Boogex, a guitar amplifier plug-in which also has incredible speaker cabinet simulation. I use it to add bite to vocals and harp, and it is both addictive and high quality.

    Cheers, Simon.

Did anyone manage to get Revival from Digital Slate without having a iLok USB stick? Is it necessary?
