The 10 Best MUTEK Sets Ever Recorded
Every Mutek set you need to hear from the finest underground electronic music festival in the world.
A space for everyone
You haven’t truly heard music until you’ve heard it in a shared space.
Live electronic music creates communal ideas, synchronized movement and shared emotion.
With today’s shortened attention spans these moments are more important than ever.
MUTEK has been birthing and fostering these moments for 16 years.
Capturing the moment
Luckily for you they record all their sets. That means you can have all these moments over and over.
We were fortunate enough to master every one of these sets with LANDR’s DJ Software.
To give you the sound that makes you feel like you’re actually there.
So treat yourself to a moment.
Here’s the best MUTEK sets ever recorded.
Kara-Lis Coverdale. MUTEK 2015.
Kara-Lis Coverdale’s 2015 set breathes.
But it doesn’t breath air. Instead it inhales and exhales pure color, texture, and light—a must for any pro daydreamer.
Deepchord presents EchoSpace. MUTEK 2011.
This set will make you move and stand still all at once.
Deep is only deep if it has a bottom. EchoSpace’s performance can’t be deep because there is no bottom. It’s limitless.
Leaving you free to float on and on.
Carl Craig. MUTEK 2009.
Carl Craig makes techno. But it is techno with every other genre mixed in.
This 2009 set is a master class in how far you can take your inspirations.
Narod Niki. MUTEK 2003.
Narod Niki is the supergroup created by Ricardo Villalobos.
The mind bending lineup includes Richie Hawtin, Akufen, Dandy Jack, Robert Henke, Dimbiman, Dan Bell, Cabanne, and Luciano.
The set was made on an early edition of Ableton—a relatively new software at the time. But the results are truly future proof.
Patricia. MUTEK 2015.
Analog rules. Need proof?
5 Minutes with Patricia’s incredible 2015 live set is all the proof you need (but you should listen to the other 55 minutes while you’re at it).
Karen Gwyer. MUTEK 2015.
This set is equal parts math, equal parts chaos.
Karen Gwyer’s 2015 performance pumps you forwards, backwards, sideways, and down.
But her backbeat is always matched with expert flourish and melody—the spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down.
Stefan Goldmann. MUTEK 2014.
This set slips between a midday countryside cruise, a late night ride through downtown and back again.
Stefan Goldman creates all the peaks and valleys a good live set should have.
France Jobin. MUTEK 2014.
If sound creates space then France Jobin has built some of the most spectacular architecture in history.
Her drones make you feel small but safe. Wrap yourself up in them and get warm.
Magnanime. MUTEK 2014.
This set would work at any time of the day. A sunny afternoon outdoors, or 5 am in a club—not an easy feat to pull off.
No matter what time you listen, one thing is true about Magnanime: she understands the moods music creates better than most.
Khotin. MUTEK 2015.
You can’t see it in the photo, but Khotin was wearing sandals during this set.
Which explains his sound quite well—comfortable, breathable and endlessly stylish.
Dip your toe in for a taste.
